May 24, 2007 - Kebaya

Kebaya

this is an old picture actually, but i think this would give enough visual on how kebaya looks like.

kebaya is indonesian traditional clothes, and they are in variety of design and colors.  however, these days, our kebaya are more modern, with designs that follows the fashion trend.  hopefully, i’ll have time to post it later.  since i don’t exactly have the nice picture of it yet.

meanwhile, please enjoy the pics! :)

May 20, 2007 - Fabrics, anyone?

fabrics, anyone?

indonesia is known for its the traditional dress called ‘kebaya’. kebaya was used to be identified as an attire worn by someone ‘older’. these days, kebayas are common to be worn by younger generation.. maybe not for their daily attire, but at least we take pride of wearing it, with the blend of the new designs and fashion trends.

the good kebaya is custom-made, tailored to fit to your body. and it’s pretty expensive, at least the good ones are. and quite time consuming.. especially when you have to go to the fabric store and pick which fabric material and color you would choose to make a piece of kebaya. there are plenty of options and it’s no easy task to do, really… tell me, i should know, as i am preparing an event that requires me to provide a lot of fabrics to make for kebayas. and the picture was a result of one of those trips to the store.

April 25, 2007 - Kendang and Gong

Kendang, Jakarta - Indonesia

And here’s a picture of the Kendang and Gong.

I’d like to say congratulation to Twin Cities DP for reaching 1 year! I couldn’t post a comment on your blog as I don’t have a Google account. All the best for more pictures to come!

And for my friend Alvonso, I have posted a becak picture before (it was my very first post on Jakarta DP). But now that you’ve mentioned it, I’ll try to post it again next time I run into one!Š

April 24, 2007 - Gamelan

Gamelan, Jakarta - Indonesia

This is a set of instrument used in traditional Indonesian music, Gamelan. The small ones called Bonang Barung and the large ones behind them are known as Kenong. I love listening to gamelan music from the slow Javanese style to the more dynamic Balinese rythm. Each of the different instrument has its own unique character which creates a magical sound when played together.
