Mayestik, Jakarta - Indonesia

These guys were very nice and they welcomed me when I asked if I could have their picture taken. I always love these wonderful people. They even posed for me! They’re selling little fishes in the market for your aquarium. I think I’d buy one for my daughter next time :)

May 20, 2007 - Fabrics, anyone?

fabrics, anyone?

indonesia is known for its the traditional dress called ‘kebaya’. kebaya was used to be identified as an attire worn by someone ‘older’. these days, kebayas are common to be worn by younger generation.. maybe not for their daily attire, but at least we take pride of wearing it, with the blend of the new designs and fashion trends.

the good kebaya is custom-made, tailored to fit to your body. and it’s pretty expensive, at least the good ones are. and quite time consuming.. especially when you have to go to the fabric store and pick which fabric material and color you would choose to make a piece of kebaya. there are plenty of options and it’s no easy task to do, really… tell me, i should know, as i am preparing an event that requires me to provide a lot of fabrics to make for kebayas. and the picture was a result of one of those trips to the store.

May 15, 2007 - Bubble

Bubble

hi, sLesTa is back! :) santy is away for a week, so i will fill in for her during her absence.

i passed this bapak while he was selling guavas in the nearby traditional market. while blowing up some bubbles, i found that he was also selling those green-and-pink bottles, wrapped in clear plastic bags.. which happens to be the traditional bubble-making liquids, sold with a simple thin iron with a loop shape to blow the bubbles with. the liquid is made of mostly concentrated soaps mixed with water. not exactly your fancy kind of bubble-making liquid, but at least they get the work done and get the bubbles out.

how it reminisce my old days…. :)
